18 Holes at Discovery Bay Golf Club
Make room in your vacation or business trip to experience the Discovery Bay Golf Club. With perfectly groomed greens and bunkers, plus breathtaking views of the surrounding area, these are 18 holes you don't want to miss.
I've traveled to Hong Kong for business a few times now, and though the trips have always been successful, I always leave with one thing on my mind: golf. There are some guys who are obsessed with their stroke and their handicap, and although I'm not the worst golfer I know, I'm definitely not "that guy." I'm the guy who has the book, 100 Places to Golf Before You Die on my coffee table. As the years have passed I've mentally added coveted courses to my own list and let me tell you, Discovery Bay Golf Club in Hong Kong is definitely up there.
So for once, I chose to mix business with pleasure and planned ahead for my work trip to be an extra daylong. I had no meetings, no conference calls, and one mission. I felt like a kid again when I went to sleep the night before my tee time, the anticipation of finally being to warm up on the driving range at the Discovery Bay Golf Club filled me with excitement.
My alarm sounded at 5:30 AM and I awoke to a view in a room at the Harbour Grand Hotel that I hadn't noticed the night before. My cozy room with a king sized bed overlooked Victoria Harbour with the sun just creeping over the horizon. Excited for the day at Discovery Bay Golf Club, I wandered down to the Harbour Grand Café and engulfed an international breakfast to die for. With a full stomach at 6:30 there are only two things a man can do, go back to sleep or golf. With that, I was finally off to the Discovery Bay Golf Club.
Two days before when I called to make my tee time, I planned for it to be early so I could play two of the nine hole courses offered at Discovery Bay Golf Club. The course names reflected their absolute beauty, Diamond, Jade, and Ruby. Before I hit the courses, I wanted to warm up my stroke.
Discovery Bay Golf Club's driving range is a place of practice pleasure. I could have spent my whole day there. Who wouldn't with rubberized flooring, an air mist cooling system, and a straight shot into the lake each time a drive is pounded? I finally warmed up by my tee time at 8:00 AM and was ready to take on Diamond and Ruby, both of which were par 36 courses.
Each course offered thousands of yards of stretching lush fairways and perfectly groomed greens. Even the sand traps (which I have to admit I got stuck in a few times) were a thing of beauty. It resembled a vacant stretch of virgin beach.
About four hours and eighteen magnificent wholes later, I stood wide-eyed calculating my scorecard outside the pro shop. I'm not one to care too much about my score, especially at a course this challenging. And although my overall scores were pretty mediocre, there was one shot I had on the Diamond course that landed me on the left center of the fairway. I was in the perfect position for a birdie on the intimidating par 4 hole. After I sank that birdie, I tucked the lucky ball in my pocket and didn't care what happened to the rest of my round.
Luckily, Discovery Bay Golf club was just as concerned as preserving my memory as I was. The Pro Shop offered custom printing of golf balls. It was exactly what I needed to make my day complete. Discovery Bay Golf Club was more that I had ever imagined in my golf dreams. The great service, incredible amenities, and golf experience itself were enough to make me want to become a member. Seeing how that was a little unrealistic, I grabbed a cab to the Hong Kong International Airport only twenty minutes away to catch my flight home and daydream the whole way about my magnificent day at the Discovery Day Golf Club.
