Chinese New Year Celebration 2012 in Hong Kong

The Chinese New Year in Hong Kong is a festivity filled with celebrations with a night parade on January 23rd, a firework display on January 24th, and horse races on January 25th. Come a week early and see the Flower Markets, lantern carnivals and the well-wishing festival.

Chinese New Year Celebration 2012 in Hong Kong

The Chinese New Year Parade will take place on January 23rd, 2012. The parade starts at 8 pm and lasts about 90 minutes. Other forms of entertainment like marching bands start at 6 pm. There will be temporary spectator stands along the route with paid seating, costing HK$180 to HK$350. Those tickets do not become available until a couple of weeks before the event. There are also places to stand along the route for free. 

The Fireworks Display takes place on January 24th, 2012. The fireworks and pyrotechnics are launched from barges in Victoria Harbor. The fireworks start at about 8 pm and last 25 minutes. The best viewing spots are along the harbor-side on both sides. 500,000 spectators attend this event.

The last big event happens on January 25th, 2012. This event is the traditional Chinese New Year Race. This is the largest attendance to a race in the world for a calendar year. 85,000 spectators come to watch the horse race, which starts at 11 am. The week before these events there are other festivities. There are Flower Markets, which the largest is at Victoria Park in Causeway Bay. There are also lantern carnivals and well-wishing festivals.
