Sightseeing in Hong Kong

Jan 14 , 2011

Make sure you take the time to do some sightseeing in Hong Kong!

If there's one thing to do in Hong Kong, it's sightseeing. Sightseeing in Hong Kong is fun, different, and never boring. There are many temples and cultural attractions, as well as abundant natural beauty and locations to take in. Here are the top spots and some of the most popular attractions in Hong Kong.

Sightseeing on Foot

Most sightseeing in Hong Kong can be done on foot. Move at your own pace and only see the sights you want. Walking is also the best way to feel the pulse of the city. To start, we recommend walking through the Central and Western Districts. The two contrast starkly, as Central District is a bustling and modern financial center and the Western District embodies Hong Kong's history with herbal shops and Western Market, a market that has been converted into a historical museum and Chinese craft emporium. Hollywood Road is also worth a stroll. It is famous for its antiques shops and is a great place to shop for fine products like porcelain, statues, and furniture. If you'd like to see one of Hong Kong's historic temples, take a stroll through the Man Mo Temple. It's notable for being one of the first temples built during the colonial era to feature traditional-style architecture.

The best way to see Hong Kong is to just pick a place, and explore. If you find yourself in Kowloon, for example, take a walk down Nathan Street. There's no better way to experience life in Kowloon than to get caught up right in the middle of the bustle of everyday life. On the surface, you'll see many restaurants and shops, some of which feature expert custom tailoring. Dig deeper and head down some of the back alleys, and you'll find fun, little-known karaoke bars and pubs. Travel like this through any region of Hong Kong and you are sure to dig up something you find interesting.

Ferry Rides

If the weather is nice, take a ride on the Star Ferry. It lets you see Hong Kong from a different perspective, as well as takes you conveniently from one locale to another. For an even more magnificent setting to your cruise, try a trip at dusk, which lets you take in a fantastic sunset. Ferry rides are popular because of their affordable, costing only a few dollars for a seat on the upper deck.

Victoria Peak

Hong Kong's premier tourist destination is Victoria Peak, locally known as the Peak. It is the tallest mountain on Hong Kong Island, and it receives more than seven million visitors a year who come for shopping at the Peak Tower and a chance to ride the Peak Tram.

From famous attractions to the simple things of everyday life in a foreign culture, sightseeing in Hong Kong is sure to fascinate you.
